The Perfect saint

Prelude:

The night started off on a downer with the news that 1 MPR team member was boycotting due to a rule interpretation, 2 MPR members were unavailable and 1 MPR member was on date. So, quorum was only just made possible with the remaining members. To compliment the team, 2 mystery guest MPR members we invited to come along - their comments are provided seperately to the overall score.

First Impressions:

As we approached the entry stairwell, we we're greeted by a very nice young lady encouraging us all to have a good night, so immediately The Saint was ahead on points. Once we got in, we were confronted by one of the bigger outdoor viewing screens going around facing a good size, but cosy beer garden. Double tick!

Settling In:

We decided to risk the elements and plant ourselves in front of the big screen outside. Looking around, there was some after work office crews, some surfy-type locals and a spinkling of couples who had clearly come with the sole purpose to watch the footy together - very romantic we must say. It was a nice vibe with good mood lighting a various seating - high stools, sun lounges and cane chairs with cushions.

With our position consolidated, some of the more adventurous in the group decided to explore the pub. We found a delightful dining area adjoins a small sunken lounge area with a couple of chesterfields and a fireplace - which made me feel like ordering a brandy and cigar immediately. This leads into a classic style sports bar with multiple screens, long bar, good number of bar staff and bench tables and stools. If this wasn't impressive enough, heading toward the back of the pub, we found the games room full of pinball machines, dartboards, pool table and a ping pong table! Yes, that's right, a ping-pong table. Visionary!!! At this point, we had to put our socks back on (after they'd been blown off) to keep walking around and find one of the more pristinely kept and comfortable TAB's in Perth.

The Food:

So, now there was some real anticipation amongst the group that if The Saint could deliver on food, it was going to blow this competition out of the water. Good menu options with all the fan favourites available at reasonable prices. The steaks were well cooked, but a little undersize. The onion rings were ravaged by everyone on the table but the buffalo wings were a little dissapointing. Everyone was satisfied with the meals with the Surf and Turf seeming to be the winner of the night. Ordering was pretty seamless and the food arrived within about 20 minutes.

Overall Score: 47/60

Sport Viewing - Execllent! Both indoors and out. Viewing everywhere you go. Would be perfect for big game days. 9/10

Food - Good honest pub food. Good portion sizes and presentation. Onion rings were a hit. 7/10

Beverages - Plenty of options on tap but prices on the high side. 7/10

Service - Prompt friendly and efficient. The best hospitality is when it's not noticed. 8/10

Atmosphere - Some good eye candy floating about and generally good vibe, but the pub seems to lack something. It's a bit, how would you say, too perfect. Bit like your mum's house. Could do with a bit of roughing up around the edges. 6/10

Punting - Excellent TAB. Clean, plenty of touch screens, good service staff and orderly. Perfect really. 10/10

Mystery Guest Comments:

MPR MG 1: "It was nice enough without being amazing. Would love to go for a Sunday session. Loved the onion rings".

MPR MG 2: "The outdoor seating cushions were wet, but the outdoor seating was nice. Overall, liked it, but just couldn't get into it. Maybe need a DJ or some sort of music inside"
